About Kiruna
Kiruna is Northern Sweden?s leading municipality within tourism ? about 40 percent of the total number of overnight guests that spend their time in the region, spend it in Kiruna. This is why Kiruna can, despite a population of only a little more than 23,000, offer a wide spectrum of alternatives when it comes to lodging and eating out. Take the opportunity to savor the local specialties such as reindeer meat in all its variations - dried, smoked, grilled or cooked ? perhaps combined with locally produced Japanese Shii-take mushrooms, actually being cultivated in the depths of LKAB?s mine.
Ptarmigan, charr and cloudberries are other specialties found in this part of Sweden, and Kiruna offers a wide range of restaurants. Exclusive or simple, you make the choice. If you are in the mood for a hamburger, pizza or kebab, this is definitely not a problem, and even here you will find local specialties.
The same variety pertains to lodging. You can live exotically and cool at Icehotel during the winter. But if you prefer to not sleep with temperatures just below freezing, there is a wide array of warmer alternatives, ranging from youth hostels and cottage villages to smaller and larger hotel operations according to your preferences.
