Airspace
 Kiruna is, with its 19,447 square kilometers, a large municipality - as large as half of Switzerland. This area is inhabited by a little more than 23,000 people, whereof 20,000 reside in and around the city of Kiruna.
This means that there is plenty of space, both on the ground and especially in the air. Kiruna can offer free airspace with a minimal amount of commercial airline traffic over an area equivalent to about an eighth of Sweden?s total land area.
As of now, Kiruna Airport has an average of eight arrivals/departures daily concentrated to the early morning, around noon and in the evening. The remaining time lends to great opportunities to carry out test flights since large parts of the surrounding area are to the most part uninhabited.
The latter mentioned advantage contributes also to making the area very suitable for the testing of UAV, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and the first such testing was successfully accomplished as early as in 2002.
